The Kathleen High School Band
The Red Devil Band at Kathleen High School was established in 1950, and is one of the oldest high school band programs in Polk County. In 1951 their first uniforms were purchased, and the band began their long tradition of performing at supporting KHS athletics, and representing the Kathleen High School around the community.

These staff are committed to maintaining a program that promotes the values of academic excellence, personal development, social enrichment, group identity, recreative activity, school pride, community service, and creates a musically enriching and enjoyable experience for every member.

The purpose of this website is to inform students, parents/guardians, and the community about all things involving the band program at Kathleen High School. This website contains information about the long history of the program, the several ensembles under the umbrella of the band, how to become a member, and what to expect when joining The Pride of Kathleen. This website is maintained and managed by the Director of Bands, KHS Red Devil Band Boosters Inc, and volunteers of the program.

Misssion Statement

KHS Red Devil Band Boosters Inc. was founded in 2013 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization of parents and volunteers committed to providing help and support with fundraising, concessions, purchasing equipment, appearances, competitions, and many other things for the Kathleen High School Band program. The organization is made up entirely of volunteer parents/guardians, alumni, school staff, and community members who volunteer their time to providing support for the band program at Kathleen High School. All parents/guardians of students involved in any of the ensembles under the umbrella of the band program are by default voting members of the boosters organization.

The KHS Red Devil Band Boosters Inc. organization has an executive board consisting of  the a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary who serve on the board with the Band Director. These board members serve as executives of the organization and assume responsibility in managing and organizing accounts and resources. All members of the executive board must be nominated and voted for annually at the end of each school year (usually May). All parents, guardians, and volunteer members of the band program and ensembles under its umbrella are eligible for nomination to serve on the executive board.

The KHS Red Devil Band Boosters Inc. organization adheres to all requirements outlined in Polk County School Board’s “Guidelines for Internal and External Support Organizations”. All volunteers must adhere to these same guidelines, and report any actions or policies that violate them directly to the Band Boosters Executive Board, the Director of Bands, and/or Polk County Public Schools.

This organization shall be operated as a nonprofit organization exclusively for the support of music education and as such, will support the following educations objectives: Cultural, Educational, Service, Citizenship, and Recreational.

This corporation is organized and operated exclusively for CHARITABLE and EDUCATIONAL purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Notwithstanding any other provision of these articles, the corporation shall not carry on any other activities not permitted to be carried on (1) by a corporation exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. 

No substantial part of the activities of this corporation shall consist of carrying on propaganda, or otherwise attempting to influence legislation, and the corporation shall not participate or intervene in any political campaign (including the publishing or distribution of statements) on behalf of, or in opposition to, any candidate for public office. 

The property of this corporation is irrevocably dedicated to charitable purposes of the marching band and no part of the net income or assets of the organization shall ever inure to the benefit of any director, officer, or member thereof or to the benefit of any private person. 

On the dissolution or winding up of the corporation, its assets remaining after payment of, or provision for payment of, all debts and liabilities of this corporation, shall be distributed to a nonprofit fund, foundation, or corporation which is organized and operated exclusively for Kathleen High School Band and which has established its tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code

The Band Director organizes a parent meeting at the end of each school year (usually May). There, nominations are made by parent/guardian and volunteer members attending for the four executive board positions.

Once nominated, a nominee must accept the nomination and position before it can move on to a vote. 

After the nominee accepts the nomination, a vote is taken to elect the nominee for one of the four board positions (President, Vice President, Treasure, and Secretary).
